10 Months

Today Julian turned 10 months old!  My little baby is just growing by leaps and bounds.  This past weekend we spent time in New York City and Brooklyn seeing friends and saying our goodbyes.  I guess it's fitting since now Julian has been to the east and west coasts now before our departure to New Zealand! Brian, our roommate in Cincinnati, hosted us and showed us around the city.  Marah and Matt spent time with us so we could catch up and enjoy one another's company.  I am going to miss them all greatly and I was so thankful that we were able to introduce Mr. Julian to them as well.

Preface to listing his tricks.  This is probably one of the most fun months with Julian.  He is so interactive and all over the place.  I'm exhausted, but feel so rewarded with his presence.

Tricks or just info:

  • He snuggles!  He has been so clingy to me that he won't even go to Dan.  During those times and after naps, I get big hugs around my neck with snuggles.  I love that snuggling part, but not the "I can never leave his side" part.
  • Julian crawls so fast that I cannot keep up with him throughout the day.  He sees something and B-lines for it.  I bought groceries yesterday and realized I didn't know how to get them in the house and care for J.  I pulled up to the door, left J in his carseat crying, unloaded the groceries, drove to the parking spot, took J inside and then put the food away while chasing J around the living room.  It was exhausting, but I love him at this age.
  • He cruises around the furniture with ease.
  • He was running around with his walker today.  It looks so effortless that I wonder when he'll start to walk.
  • He says MAMA!!!  I'm so happy.
  • He points at everything and gets so excited.  He was so funny at the Natural History Museum in NY.  He pointed and said, "oooo, ohh oh" at everything.
  • I taught him to point to my nose and mouth when I ask, "where's mama's nose?" or "where's mama's mouth?"  I cried a bit at how amazing he is.  How are baby's so smart?
  • He also points to daddy when I ask, "where's dada?"
  • He loves to play with anything that isn't a toy...ughh!  I guess now that he can roam around, shoes, recycling, the garbage can, computer, rocking chair, etc. are all fascinating.  Too bad many are dangerous.
  • He plays with his cars that my dad made him.  He can wheel them back and forth on their wheels.
  • He loves to kick things while we help him walk.  It's hilarious.
  • He's not putting things in his mouth as much as he has.  It used to be the first thing that he would do, but now he looks at things more.
  • He loves to stand by the glass doors and look outside.
  • He's not a fan of his stroller.  I was thankful to have the Moby wrap on our NY trip.
  • He still loves his books.  I didn't take any to NY and when we got home, he crawled over to his book corner and I read a few before bed.  Sweet baby.
  • He eats with a spoon, but it is so messy!
  • Yesterday he started to try and get up from a crawling position to a standing position without holding onto anything.  He tried multiple times today as well.  Wow!
  • I play veggietales or curious george for 10 minutes while I cut his finger nails.  It works and I need to do it or he scratches himself at night.
  • He got his first passport and looks dapper in his superman shirt.
  • 5 little monkeys and alice the camel keep him really entertained if he's fussy.  He points his finger and shakes his while I say, "no more monkeys jumping on the bed."  He thinks he's so funny.
  • He waves well now, but sometimes it's pointing the finger and waving as if he's scolding the person he's waving to.
  • He eats A LOT of solid food.  He's not nursing as much, but will eat a ton.  I feel as if I can't keep up.  I don't have that much food.  Tonight he had pureed broccoli (he's still choking on it whole), hamburger and cheddar cheese mixed together, oatmeal with yogurt, green beans, puffs, and 3/4ths of a piece of toast.  He seems as if he could continue eating.
  • Tonight I folded all the laundry and was doing something else and he started to pull out all the folded laundry and throw it on the floor...stinker.
  • Distraction is working well for now, but he knows the word "no" and stops from doing something harmful pretty well.  Sometimes he doesn't and I have to get creative in order to draw his attention to the next activity.
