His 9 month appointment was on Monday and everything checked out great!
Wt: 19lb 15oz (50%)
Ht: 29.75" (95%)
Head: 46cm (75%)
The doctor couldn't find anything wrong with his arm either. Julian is using like normal, but I still wanted him to check it out.
He also had a toe stick, but since J curls his toes like his mama, the blood didn't flow very well. I got him to nurse and he relaxed a little, but it took forever to get the blood that they needed. They were suppose to call me with the results, so I'm wondering if it clotted off too soon.
I started to use the word "no" more often than I wanted to. Julian responded ok to it, but I was reminded by the doctor's information that it should only be used for dangerous or very serious situations. I like this practice since I saw distraction work really well for my friend's kids (thank you Jenna!). Julian's will is so strong and we're just at the point of using some correction, but we have to be consistent. For example the full out screaming was hurting our ears so much. We at first reacted and said, "shhh" and "no", but it caused him to do it more. Then we ignored J and he screamed more to get our attention. Now we just don't react and he doesn't continue it...as long! ha ha.
New tricks and things
- waves hi and bye...roughly
- dances to rhymes (drum beats and reading his nursery rhymes) and music...so cute
- sings
- "roars" and growls for animal noises
- says, "dada" and cries "mama"
- screams at the top of his lungs just to hear himself....ughh!
- stands leaning against his table and at his walker for 20 minutes
- walks while we hold his hands, or with the walker (he loves to stand or walk)
- continues to perfect the cheesy smile, especially with others in person or on skype. J likes girls the best
- loves to destroy block and cup towers
- army crawls, but prefers to be picked up and moved (lazy!)...unless there is something to get into
- hugs his stuffed animals
- signs "more", but only for finger foods, not for foods that we feed him with a spoon...strange
- feeds self, but I have to give him pieces one at a time or he'll shove it all in his mouth. I used to give him a chunk of banana or bread and he'd eat it well, but now he'll shove the whole thing in his mouth.
- He struggles with pea and blueberry skins, but they keep him occupied for a while ;)
- He's still sensitive to oats and we tried spaghetti which broke out his face too (sad, because it was so cute to watch him eat it). We'll try again in a few weeks.
- pulls himself up easily
- sat up from lying down (twice) while distracted because he really wanted something, but doesn't want to do it (just like crawling)
- perfecting throwing temper tantrums...arching back when put down
- goes down for naps and bed really well.
- takes great naps 90% of the time
- was sleeping at night really well...but not the last two nights. Maybe 9 months is like the 4 month sleeping strike. boo! I'm wondering if it's because I started solids and now he's not drinking as much milk until night time.
- Was able to handle 90 minutes of Granny and Grandpa Smith babysitting while Dan and I went out on a short date. J broke down, but wasn't out of control.
Well, my mind doesn't work as well since he's so consuming. He was playing independently, but after our Seattle trip, he doesn't want me out of sight so I'm consumed by J. I'm hoping for a break soon even though my love is growing deeper and deeper for him.
