Miles was so easy going that I could put him anywhere. I would put him in the Moby to go out, but now he wants to see the world like Julian did from day 1 and doesn't like to face me. He's much happier outward facing, so all those moms who think it's awful to expose your kids to the world, I'm sorry (this is in comment to a group that I went to where they all agreed that babies should be inward facing so they aren't overstimulated).
I stopped going to a mothers group. I was doing so well with Miles and all the group did was make me doubt what I was doing. I also try not to read any blogs about babies sleeping or milestones, etc. It makes me more anxious than feeling helped.
Miles is now chomping on both hands and will suck his thumbs at times. I put the pacifier in on those times. He likes the paci to fall asleep, but not all the time. With the chomping, Miles is drooling a lot so he needs a bib.
The biggest thing that Miles is doing is "talking" up a storm. The kid found his voice and wants to be heard. It is so cute. It's very sing songy and I LOVE it. Every morning, at about 5:30 or 6 he is so awake and wants to tell us all about his dreams or the things he wants to do that day. I prop him on my knees facing me and he just talks and talks. He does this throughout the day when he's awake, especially if there is music on, we're singing, or just talking right to him. He's also "talked" while we went out of the room for a moment.
He is kicking up a storm and rolls both ways, but I think he favors rolling over the left arm. I still haven't gotten it on video because he stops when I get the camera out. He loves tummy time, so I'm making sure he's on his tummy as much as possible. It's nice that it has been warmer out so it's not freezing on the floor.
Miles still loves his bath even though he only gets about 2 a week. I feel awful, but I wonder if that is why his skin is so much better than Julian's was. I bathed Julian daily for 18 months. Miles does have a little rash on his chest and I wonder if it's from the drool. I hope he doesn't have eczema.
He LOVES tv. whoops. I put tv on in most mornings for Julian so I can get ready and get a few things done before we start the day. I kept Miles' bouncer facing Julian but he will bend over backwards just to watch the tv. He loves it...ugh.
He loves his play gym. It has a star that smiles at him and he smiles back at it. There are animals (especially the Lamaze giraffe) that hang and he can hit and grab them. He talks to the animals and stares at the photo of a rabbit. If he's fussy, he prefers to lie on his back rather than be held. Makes life pretty easy. Also chomping on his hands helps soothe him too.
I just read Julian's 3 month post and I probably overstimulated that kid. I never stopped. Poor Miles is definitely getting more attention than he has, but nothing like Julian got. I have been facing him out while I read to Julian and he looks at the pictures, but I'm not reading Miles 12 books a day. I hope his vocab and language skills are like Julian's, but we'll see.
I am waiting impatiently for Miles' giggle. His smiles is so infectious and I want to hear the sound that is behind it. He's just starting to put sound to it, but I want to hear that belly laugh. Julian and I have watch a few of his baby videos and it's funny that Julian's laugh is the same as it was as a baby. I can't wait to hear Miles' laugh.
The other part of sickness is that we joined a playcentre (a playgroup) for Julian's socialization. It is amazing but people bring their sick kids and we will not be able to avoid the germs. Today every kid was sick and I was cringing thinking of how it will affect Miles.
I have no stats because our Plunket nurse has canceled our appointment. We'll have to weight and measure him. He's in 4-9 kg nappies, but still poops up the back. He nurses like a champ still, the only issue is he falls asleep between 6-8pm and then is awake at 1am and 5:30am. Sometimes he gets up at 1 to feed, goes to sleep and is up at 2 or 2:30. I get exhausted when he does this, though considering my time with Julian, this season will pass...in a year or 2...ha ha!
