16 week appointment

Happy Birthday Dan!!

My appointment went sort of as expected.  The baby is great with my midwife sort of counting and said that the heart beat was "in the 140s".  Dan counted 132.

I'm realizing that my midwife takes more of a physician approach and doesn't take the time or answer my questions, or teach like I was hoping a real midwife would do.  Midwives are suppose to take a more holistic approach and be there for the woman and baby in more than just a "hi, the baby is fine, see you in a month" sort of way.  I asked a lot of questions and barely got any feedback.  I was blown off with quite a few questions.  I wanted to talk a little about the birth plan and the response was, "Not until 36 weeks.  There are 50 people ahead of you, so you have to wait for a while."  That is not what I wanted to hear.  I'm actually a bit emotional about it and will have to go to Bloomington Area Birthing Services (BABS) for some support and some resources.  That is where I got my list of doulas.

Other than that, I'm doing ok.  My sciatica (back injury from Jan '05) and hypermobile SI joints have killed me that last three nights at work.  My midwife gave me a referral for physical therapy since my leg is starting to go numb and I'm in so much pain.  Other than that, I'm still getting over that cold.  I think I had a sinus infection, but the body is an amazing healing machine.  I'm just trying to drink a lot of water and eat well.

Accountability
My weight is 120 (at 8 weeks it was 119 with shoes, jeans and a sweater on).  I figure if I post my weight on here, I won't be too temped to gain 75 lbs!  :)  I packed away my size 0 jeans (those were tight anyway) and keep putting on my size 2-3 and using the belly band once in a while, but man, my maternity pants are soooo comfortable!!!

  1. As someone who gained a lot of weight with my first baby and not so much with the second - I say either way is fine. :) You look fabulous and will at any size so eat what you want haha.
