Today I taught cardiac in my class and the students had to learn to use a doppler to hear pulses. During some downtime I asked if they'd like to hear the baby (I was really hoping they would want to!). Of course they were excited and so I was searching around my lower abdomen and found my pulse first. They said it was fast, but I had them count and it was in adult range. Then I found the fast beat. I think my eyes lit up and then their eyes lit up. They were so excited, but I was really excited! I had them count and it was about 140 beats/min. That's slower (still normal), but the old wives' tale is that slower heart rates mean a boy. I guess we'll find out in Dec.
In other news, I can feel my fundus. You may wonder what that is, but it's one of the few things I remember from labor and delivery in nursing school. It's the top of the uterus and it is now between my pubic bone and belly button. It is so cool to know the baby is growing and I'm seeing the product of it!

Lizzy was 140 bpm so you never know! :)
ReplyDeleteKK always had a lower bpm too 130s/140s. i think her highest was 152, so yep, you never know. ;-) my midwife hasn't been counting the bpm with this one, so i have no clue where we're at right now. lol
ReplyDelete:) Yeah, I don't think old wives' tales are reliable. I'll just have to wait until mid-Dec.
ReplyDeleteyay! i can't waitto find out what we're BOTH having! ;-) just had my 16 week appt yesterday and scheduled my 20 week ultrasound for Nov. 29! ;-) Although, not sure when we'll actually do the cake cutting party...might not be until mid-December...if i can wait that long! ;-)
