3 months/13 weeks

Julian turned 3 months/13 weeks on Friday, July 13, 2012.  Wow!  It's going so fast!  I don't think I have many new things to write, but he really is maturing and developing daily.  Some days I look at him and he seems more boy like than baby.

He continues to love tummy time.  I hate that he gets glances of the tv, but it has him arching his back way up and it builds his strength even more.  He hasn't rolled over, but I have pulled his arm out (mean mommy) and he'll roll over.  It makes me laugh and then he laughs because mama has a silly laugh.

Julian is swaddled at night and started to get heat rash on his face again.Yesterday we bought a single unit air conditioner for our bedroom so we don't have to cool our entire town home at night.  He is still sleeping well at night (7 hours on average), but I still have to get up between 2-4 since he goes to sleep at 8:30ish.

We figured out something so important for him to sleep.  Julian always nuzzles his face into us or into a blanket when he falls asleep on us.  I took his taggies blanket and put it on both cheeks leaving his nose free. Then I put a pacifier in his mouth and he instantly closes his eyes.  He can fall asleep in the bouncer (while I bounce him) or in my arms while I rock him.  If he's overtired, I just bounce on the exercise ball and he's out instantly.  I think I will start swaddling him with our muslin blankets for naps.  He's only sleeping 20-30 mins at a time, not long enough for me to get anything done.  I thought if I swaddled him with the blanket instead of the velcro swaddle, it would be resting on his cheeks and possibly hold the pacifier in his mouth as well.

Julian is so happy during the day, especially after eating.  He is so much fun to play with, but it can get exhausting too, reading through 12 books, playing with toys, tummy time, etc.  I love playing with him, but it's amazing how much energy he has.  I wish I could wear him out so he could sleep longer.  His new "toy" that is amazing is his new teether.  We took a trip to Indy and I bought this with a gift card to Babies R Us.  It's for a 4+ month old, but he loves chomping on it.  He likes to chew on Sophie, but he has trouble finding the parts he want to chomp on without my help.  This new teether will be the bridge between the two.  I'm hoping he can continue to hold onto it and become more independent at soothing himself.

When Julian is fussy or down right screaming, we have found some magic solutions.  He loves listening to the guitar.  Dan and I sing to him a lot, but we found out that he doesn't like Old Timey music.  I'll Fly Away and Angel Band made him cry that stinker.  He loves looking at himself in the mirror.  Since we don't have a big mirror on the first floor, I videoed him while singing and reading to him.  Now there is a youtube Julian Channel which is full of me singing songs and reading his favorite books.  He loves watching himself, so his screams end instantly when they're played.  FYI:  these are boring (except to me),  but the sneeze is cute.  When he sneezes he always coos afterwards.  I went to record a song and he sneezed so I was so excited that I got it on video.

Other news: Julian is so long that he is practically off my lap while nursing.  He continues cranial sacral therapy to help with his lip tie which helps me a lot since his latch is not as tight.  He likes sitting in the bumbo...he has good head control, but gets bobbly when he's excited.  The bumbo annoys him when he wants to stretch out.  Some of his 3 month clothes are getting packed away because he's growing.  He drools a ton while he's chomping away on his hand, toys, or teethers, so the bib has become our new friend. He gets better and better at grabbing things and loves to touch my face.  He babbles away in the morning and did so on our trip to Indy.  He gets on all 4s at first when I put him down for tummy time.  He took a 10 min nap on his tummy for the first time 2 days ago, but he was really tired.  I go back to work on Sunday night!
