skin and broccoli

So, Julian is sleeping better.  His cold is still awful and he struggles to breath, but the humidifier has helped a bit.  I still don't know if it's a true cold (Dan and I didn't get it) or if this is just how teething is.  He'll have moments of crazy fussiness, but 90% of the time, he's quite happy...even funny.  He is much more snuggly though and does NOT like me leaving the room.

Today we went to the dermatologist and he said that I can continue using the hydrocortisone cream.  He wanted me to use the ointment to prevent drying, but I told him that he breaks out with any greasy substance (ointments, aquaphor, coco butter, etc.).  I said I would try it because his skin has been really dry.

He also suggested that I oil up his head before bed, keep it on all night, and then bathe him in the morning.  No more anti-dandruff shampoo.  He said baby shampoo would be fine.  If it doesn't work, then I can use a medicine for yeast.  Hopefully all his suggestions will help this little guy have clearer skin and be less itchy.

Why is broccoli in the title?  My son LOVES it!  He kept begging for more.  The last the thing dermatologist said was that we can give all those foods that make his skin break out, we just have to wash him off quickly and thoroughly.  He said bananas happen to be really bad with causing the hives, but that he is fine if he eats them.

I tried oatmeal yesterday (with water...shame on me) and he loved it, but his face was all red and rashy a couple of hours later and his eyes were itchy.  The cortisone helped his skin, but his poor eyes were miserable.

I gave him rice cereal with the soy formula to try it and he was NOT having it.  My friend gave me a fancy formula (organic and sensitive), but he refused to drink it.  I guess he doesn't want to vomit violently again.  I tried rice cereal with water (again, shame on me) and he loved it.

I'm just thankful that we can proceed with solids.  I'm ready to night wean.  I'm very tired and I've been able to just hold him with a pacifier for some of those feeds and he goes back to sleep.  I'm not looking forward to the next growth spurt, since this last one was crazy long.  I guess it was the growth spurt, teething, and sickness all at once.  What a trooper.
