Miles is still not crawling, but he can get up on all 4 and rock, spin all the way around, and scoot backwards a bit. He has backed up from his tummy to sitting, but it was a fluke. My Plunket nurse said I really need to get him crawling so he eats more, gains weight and stops nursing at night. She had me a bit nervous, but I let it go and just trust he's fine. He is only 9% for weight (little peanut), but I cannot get the kid to drink milk.
He really really has no interest in nursing except the two feeds at night. I am constantly trying to nurse him but he's too distracted and will not stay on. If we feed him formula he'll drink a lot more, but he's still nursing at night, so it doesn't help with sleep. The plunket nurse begged me to keep breast feeding since winter is coming and his ears kept getting infected, but I think he would gain weight if we bottle fed him. I think he likes to look around while eating. I don't care when he gets a bottle, but I really don't feel ready to quit breast feeding yet. He's my last baby, so I'm "milking" it...ha ha. I do look forward to my hormones getting back to "normal" and not having to worry about what I wear so I can nurse him.
- He can stand by the sofa, but we have to stay right there because he's pretty unsteady.
- He says, "Da" or "Dada" when Dan comes in the room. Or just glows and finds Dan when asked, "Where's daddy?" He says, "Mama" a little bit.
- He'll point to things in books, likes to turn the pages, and unfortunately pinches his fingers in the board books. He's not as interested in books as Julian was, but he has his favorites (thank you Uncle Bob, Aunt Suzie, Megan and Macey! for the 4 baby books. M loves them!)
- Miles is biting me everywhere. He'll bite my hand, leg, neck, shoulder...anything. His teething must be hurting pretty badly, but he's pretty cruisy and easy. Every night as he falls asleep, he hits his mouth over and over with his fist. Poor guy.
- He loves to bang things together, drum, and mimic Julian's sounds. Today he made car sounds like Julian and then screamed with a smile on his face while Julian was having a temper tantrum. It was funny. He LOVES his older brother.
- Miles LOVES LOVES LOVES animals. He will try to jump out of my arms to get at dogs or cats. He loves to see them on tv or in books. He laughs and giggles until they are gone. It's so cute. Stuffed animals even entertain him a bit, but the real ones are the best. He does cuddle his animals and will fall asleep on him while bent in half. He's such a sweetie.
- he eats nonstop. I feel as if he will not stop eating solid food. It has been pretty messy. Julian used to get a bath every day and Miles only gets 2 a week, so I have to make sure he gets clean after every eating session which is hard when there are about 5 or 6.
- Miles is learning about gravity and throwing his food on the floor. I have started to use a firm tone and say no, but I'm not sure if he understands.
- He loves to dance and sing while music is playing.
Miles is such a joy. I don't do 25% of the stuff I did with Julian. J took ALL my attention and energy when he was a baby and Miles takes about 10% of me. I have to remind myself to not get too busy and ensure he gets face to face time and play time with me. I'm not actively teaching him things like I did with Julian, but he is so happy, content, independent, and cuddly. Everyone loves him.
His eyes are really amazing. They're hazel and really do change colors during the day. I keep thinking that they'll turn brown, but somedays they are really blue. Very strange and cool.
