8 months/35 weeks!

Wow, Julian is 2/3rds of a year old.  ha ha.  The kids is growing taller and taller and can do so much these days.  I feel as if I'm falling more in love with him.  Maybe it's because I'm getting better sleep (he is too) or maybe it's because I'm adjusting to this new person who has come in and rocked my world!  It's a big deal to rock the world of an only child, but I love it!

So the sleep issue.  He still eats 2 times a night and the lactation consultant thinks that is great.  Me, I'd love to night wean and get at least 8 hours of sleep, but it takes a lot of work to not feed him.  His naps are AWESOME!  well, sort of.  He takes a 30 min nap right away in the morning around 8:30.  Then he takes a 2 hour nap in the late morning/early afternoon.  He takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and a 20 min nap at 4:30 or 5ish.  He goes down really well for the naps.  Sometimes I feed him, sometimes I just lay him down awake, but the catch, I have to stay in the room for the first 40 min (a sleep cycle), replace the pacifier when he wakes at that time, and then I'm free.  I take that time for myself to do my devotionals, reading, or napping.  It's great to not have to feel rushed to get things done.

Cooking, on the other hand  has been challenging.  He can smell it if he's napping and wakes up early and he hates me being in the kitchen when he's awake.  I've tried putting his toys in there or placing him at my feet, but it's a no go.  I hope soon.

His separation anxiety is so much better.  He is fine with me leaving the room, though he prefers me to be near him even if he's playing independently.  He's not much of a snuggler, but when we're around a group of people, he is more clingy.  Julian still doesn't look at the person who is holding him unless they are doing something that is really funny or playing games.

New tricks:

  • He can eat most things without breaking out too badly.  Oatmeal is the worst, but he can have about a tablespoon without too much of a reaction.
  • He started pulling himself up.
  • He love to stand.  Uncle Bob, Aunt Suzie, and Cousins Megan and Macey got him this awesome walker that he loves to stand behind.  When he got it, he started taking steps, so now we can hold his hands and he walks.
  • He can hold his own bottle.
  • Drinking from a sippy cup works if there is a lot of water in it, but otherwise he doesn't tilt back far enough to get the water out.  He like to chew on it more than drink from it anyway.
  • He has babbled "mama" a few times, but still prefers to say "dadadadaddy".
  • Yelling is his new thing.  He wants to grab kids and I don't let him because he's violent, so then he yells at them.
  • Pacifier use was only for naps but when G&G Osland were here, we were out in public a lot and he was yelling (happy or sad), so I used it as a mute button.  Now he wants to have the pacifier more often which I'm not thrilled about.
  • He's obsessed with grabbing my neck and collar bones.  I hate it.  I have felt so touched out at times that I had to stop nursing him or put a scarf around my neck because I can't stand how it feels.  He's obsessive about it.
  • He's learning to be gentle.  We are practicing with blue bear about how to be gentle.
  • Arching the back is our new "friend"!  Uggh.  When J doesn't get what he wants when he wants it, he screams and arches his back.  Some of his toys make him really angry, so I decided to take one away and that was the biggest mistake I could have made.  WOW!  What happened to my little baby? There is no in between with this.  He goes from content to 100% temper tantrum in a split second.
  • He smiles all the time!  People (strangers and friends) are obsessed with him.  People stop us wherever we go to talk to him.  He is usually pretty serious with new people, but sometimes a person (usually a blond female) can get him to smile right away.  He has my expressions.
  • He's starting to teeth again.  I guess I'm going to be saying this for over a year.  The drool and chomping are getting pretty bad, but he seems in good spirits.  My friend Mary got him an amber necklace and I can't tell if it works or not, but there is no harm in using it.  The strange thing is is that I thought they were suppose to chew on it...amber being a natural material, but it's really an acid that is released that is suppose to help with teething pain. hmmm.
  • Julian just started clicking his tongue.  Dan and I laughed and now he thinks he's pretty smart.  His smug looks crack me up.  He gets all serious and proud and then bursts out in a laugh knowing that he can't take himself that seriously.  ha ha!
  • He's outgrowing his bouncer seat, but it's still our favorite place to read books.  He has a chair that is converted from his swing, so I should replace that soon.
  • His activity jumper still gives me about 10-20 mins of time to do something.  He actually jumps and is quite proud of himself.
  • He claps his hands and clanks toys and blocks together all the time.  I swear he can keep the beat to music, but maybe it's just a coincidence.  I'm not sure.  Julian also gives five but I have to say "pat-a pat-a".  He hasn't learned "give me five" yet.
  • We're working on waving "buh-bye".
  • He can say "home" with "This Little Piggy" and "one" when I do any sort of counting.  It's so cute.  He still makes noises like "I love you" after I say it.
  • I just put him in size 4 diapers (Target brand) even though he hadn't reached the weight limit.  He was leaking through at night and had blowouts during the day.  Since I went up a size, there have been no leaks, but the poops from solids are GROSS!!!
Well, off to spend time with Lynsi, a friend since 1988.  She is visiting for the weekend and I'm very excited that she's meeting Julian and hanging out with us!  Julian loved her right away.  Is it the blond hair?

8 months

Thank you Uncle Bob, Aunt Suzie, Megan and Macey!  I'm a big boy now!
