Formula is evil: part 2

Yesterday I had a meeting at work, so I fed Julian before leaving and asked Dan to try giving him oatmeal.  I was hoping he wouldn't get the rash like the rice cereal and also hoping it would help him get some more calories so he would sleep better at night, though every lactation consultant tells me solids will not help his sleep.  Because Julian is up every 1-3 hours at night, I have not been able to freeze any milk and I cannot pump enough at work, so my stash is diminishing.  Since I asked Dan to give only a little bit of oatmeal, I asked him to try a different formula (Similac for gassy tummies--free sample)  than the one we used previously (Enfamil--free sample)...see this post.  Dan said he only gave him about 2 tablespoons of cereal and he liked it.

I got home and the vomiting started.  He puked up what looked like a half of a liter of thick cereal. Dan swore he only gave him a couple of tablespoons, but it looked like a lot.  I guess the stuff expands.  Julian was happy afterwards, so we decided to go for a walk downtown.  We got in the car and he projectile vomited all over himself and the back seat...yup, now we're those people that have everything covered in puke.  The poor guy then fell asleep immediately and was a limp baby getting into the stroller.  Dan and I enjoyed our walk and ice cream in the 80 degree weather, but I got nervous and wanted to get home and nurse him to make sure he was hydrated.

I nursed him and then called the nurse at the pediatrician's office to ask about formula and solids since he seemed allergic or sensitive to everything.  Oh, he had a rash all around his mouth and neck.  While I was talking to her, he vomited again.  Poor guy.  He made his mama quite nervous.

Well, he ate well that evening and actually slept 7 hours...yes...7!  The biggest problem is that he didn't have a wet diaper from 2pm till 7am, but thankfully I drank a lot to day and he is back to normal.  He also had a rash all over his body...again, poor guy.  The RN called back and said to give him Gerber Sensitive formula.  I'm not wanting to give that evil stuff again.  I'm just hoping he's done with this crazy feeding at night and that the freezer stash stays well supplied.

Formula is evil, well at least for my baby.  Have you seen the price of the stuff?  Oh my, how do people afford it?
